1. How’d you get started on Etsy?

It all began in my dorm room in college, I had a sorority sister in my room and we were crafting. I needed to make a friend a present that was unique and meaningful. I made this bracelet for her and other sorority sisters loved it and asked if I could make more. Two years later I made so many different kinds of jewelry and accessories I decided to post them up here on Etsy. I enjoy making jewelry so much it has been an addiction and another artistic outlet for me.

Beauty Leak: Tips and tricks that could blow your mind!

Cat Eye stencil: Scotch Tape

Applying Scotch Tape at the corner edge of your eye will create an easy stencil and guide to create an even look and a great edge to a dramatic Cat Eye. 

Create The Illusion: With White eyeliner

Create the look of wider set eyes with just applying white eyeliner in the lower waterline of eyes.A bigger eye is a great daytime look, it makes you look more awake. 

Dull eyeshadow? 

Ever purchased an eyeshadow palette and find out when you apply it to your eyes the shade is a lot duller on your lids? Not to worry, there are two easy solutions to intensifying the color:

Add Water:

dip your eyeshadow brush in water to make the palette damp, so when it is applied the color intensifies, it also keeps the excess powder from falling. Works best with eyeshadow pigment (not pressed in a palette) 

White Based Cream:

Getting a jumbo eye liner in white and applying it on your lids before you add the eyeshadow will create a blank slate to brighten the shadow. I recommend using the NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk.

 

Don’t have Liquid Eyeliner?

No worries! take a thin makeup liner brush and use your mascara in leu of the liquid liner. I use waterproof mascara for an all day look, works just as well and saves money.

 

Summertime: no need to change foundation (with SPF or BB)

Create your own moisturizer or tinter with the foundation you already own. Just add sunscreen to your foundation and mix together, same with moisturizer. The more moisturizers and sunscreen added the more translucent the foundation will become creating a lighter look for summer!

 

Puffy eyes?

Use preparation H cream to dab under eye, this will instantly relieve swollen eyes. 

Need to zap a Zit fast?

Cut open an Advil Liquid Gel capsule and use the gel inside and apply it to the blemish will relieve redness and irritation fast. 

Make Lipstick Last

No matter what brand of lipstick, none can really have an all day last ! It will either fade out or get on everything your lips touch (your cup, significant other, napkins etc. ) it’s a messy situation. Two solutions to keep the the lipstick last and stay on just your lips. 

Tissue and powder: After applying lipstick take a tissue and translucent powder. Holding the tissue over your lips take a blush brush and apply power over the tissue to create a filter. 

Lip sealer: I swear by this! and do not use anything but this if I apply lipstick.Mehron’s LipstixSealer  It lasts all day long and will not leave a mark on anything! Smudge free, waterproof and mess free! About $5

Brighten Spring Up!

For spring beauty it is all about the lips! The trending lipstick colors are Pink, orange and purple before you think these colors are impractical for everyday wear, I made a simple shade chart that is based off of your personal skin complexion.

 

For Fair Skin:

Remember a little color goes a long way for porcelain fair skin.For fair skin I recommend using a lip stain instead of a lipstick. A lip stain allows for longer wear and lighter application without neccesarily needing to have a light color.

Pink Lipstick- Think Berry Pink. Berry shades are neutral between thewarm and cool spectrum; this won’t overpower your lips.

       

Stick to the lighter berry shades : such as apricots, blush, raspberry

Covergirl Outlast Lip Stain- Wild Berry Wink

Orange Lipstick- Just like the pink shades, on fair skin staying neutral is key. Getting a nude lip color with a tint of orange/coral/apricot will highlight your complexion.

Purple Lipsticks- just like the pink shades only difference is a more purple berry shade such as a raspberry pink.

For Light – Medium Skin:

Light to Medium skin tone is the most common of complexions. It is also the most forgiving with experimenting with bold shades of lip colors

Pink Lipsticks- Bright pinks in warm or cool shades look great, for a more subtle everyday pink use more of a blush pink, or make a sheen of pink by wearing a nude lip with a pink gloss applied on top.

Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Gloss – Electric Shock (on top)

Orange Lipstick- Bright coral colors and for a subtle look just lean towards more of a nude lip with a tint of coral.

 Purple Lipstick- A purple lip with a hint of pink is bright and fresh! I personally love this look. The only way to play down purple lips is to have your lips as a focal point; this can be done by only applying mascara and foundation, the color only being your lips.

(I personally love this color!)

For Olive Skin:

Pink Lipstick- deeper pink with red undertones will compliment the golden complexion of olive skin.

Orange- Again adding red undertones will compliment the skin well, so for a trendy orange lip, get it closer to a warm tone.

 

             

Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids- Electric Orange, Vibrant Mandarin

Purple- With olive skin going for a darker plum lip brings out the gold in your skin. Looks very elegan

For Dark Skin:

Golden undertones

With a dark complexion the brighter the lip is better! Stay away from the pastel light colors.

 

Pink- bright pinks A fiery mix of red and pink!

Back to Basics: What’s your skin tone?

Ever gone to the drugstore to buy foundation? As you walk down the cosmetic aisle there is a multitude of foundation shades. Now I question am I sandy beige, beige nude or ivory?I never thought about the complexities of knowing my complexion! So I secretly try the colors on the top of my hand, when I narrowed it down to two shades it now becomes a luck of the draw. Later I regret my decision and see that I look orange or don’t match up to the rest of my body. Foundation is overwhelming! I have always heard “well its easy what is your undertone, warm or cool?” How can I tell my undertone…there are so many theories but to break it down I finally found a chart that made sense to me. Who knew by just looking at your veins determines your undertone! I now realized I am a cool undertone and have been using warm foundations ( reason why I looked orange)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Protecting the Skin is always In!

Music gets louder, and nights get longer

With all the fun do not neglect your skin! A big misconception is that you will not get tan if you use sunscreen at the beach or when outside. This is completely a myth, Sunscreen protects skin from UV rays which causes sunburn, Tanning lotion does not protect from sunburn. Sunburns and tanning are different, a sunburn is a reaction to overexposure to the sun to whereas tanning is caused from moderate exposure to the sun. So not matter what sunscreen is always needed whenever in the sun. I am a big advocate for sunscreen since I have personally had a close family member of mine have melanoma. The sun rays are strong so always remember to take care of the beauty and skin within!

As we know men and women are different in the way we think. A woman’s “beauty” can be completely different than a man’s idea of it. Our differences does not have to change our whole beauty routine, there is always room for compromise. Here are a few looks that men generally are not fond of and how we can alter the look that is more appealing.

The red lip

To him: it is a big red flag for intimacy, it may look good on, but once he is in for a kiss men do not want to be wearing your lipstick later.

What this means: Don’t ditch the red lip, find an alternative such as a red lip pencil, apply to the crease of your lips and blend in. This technique will give you the red lip without the sticky mess and last longer.

Glitter eyes

To him: Glitter is for crafting, not for your lids.

What this means: If you want sparkle getting a shimmering eyeshadow will do the trick. Be careful for they do make glitter eyeshadow, but shimmer is more pearlized giving a more mature look.

All Natural

To him: When he says he likes you natural with no makeup

What this means: put makeup on naturally! Even a tinted moisturizer will create the look of wearing nothing but avoiding the tired look of being all natural.

Winged eyeliner

To him: He can only relate that look to Cleopatra, and may find it a bit high maintenance

What this means: Don’t ditch the trend of the winged eye, just make the look very minimal, the wing should not extend out too far.

Fake Lashes

To him: He wants to see your eyes, not just the half fallen off lashes that weigh the eyelid down.

What this means: Lashes are what frame your eyes, try a more romantic look by using single fake lashes, they wont fall off or be heavy on the eye.

Ever bought a makeup product and was disappointed by the final result? With everything now sealed and packaged we now heavily rely on the label to explain to us about the product. Here is a breakdown of “makeup definitions” , that will help you better understand what the product will actually do or how to achieve the desired look! Hope this helps.

Face:

Foundation – is a skin colored cosmetic applied to the face to create an even, uniform color to the complexion, to cover flaws.

Types of foundations:

Tinted Moisturizer– Made to moisturize and soften the skin with a tint of sheer color to even out skin tone. Best used for summer and outdoor events, it is common to find some kind of spf sunscreen mixed in the moisturizer.

Mousse/Whipped Foundation– The foundation is air whipped, making it light and smooth to use. Good for all skin types, especially for dry skin.

Liquid Foundation– Most common, and has a wide range of brands to choose from. Best results are to test the color on your jawline, your face color is different than your body, so testing on your face will have best results.

• Anything that reads waterproof, smudge proof or long lasting wear, contains oily ingredients such as silicone base rather than water base. This can irritate some people’s skin, if so try next time the same foundation just not long wear.

Cream to powder– A newer kind of foundation that is a cream base but when applied to the face becomes a powder. Gives easy coverage and is good for all skin types. Found in a compact not a tube, so it does look like a powder in the package.

Mineral – Known for having the lowest amount of ingredients, natural minerals and is great for people with allergies and sensitive skin, creates a flawless and light look

Eyes:

Eye shadow– used to accentuate and contour the eyes.

Different kinds of eye shadows:

Shimmer– color pigment that has metallic and glitter like qualities.

Matte– a color eye shadow with no shine or dimension, flat color.

Contour color– eye shadow that is darker than your skin color.

Highlight color– eye shadow that is lighter than your skin color.

Mascara– defines lashes by lengthening, thickening and coloring.

Eyeliner– defines the eyes in a more detailed and dramatic way. Comes in waterproof, liquid and pencil.

Lips:

Lipstick-A solid stick that gives an even and bold look.

Lip stain– the product applied soaks into lips, creating a long wear and more sheer than lipstick.

Lip pen– soft application, great for blending and color coverage.

Cheeks:

Bronzer– Gives a warm glow to the face, a tad darker than ones complexion.

Blush – adds a discreet flush of color to the face to add dimension. Comes in cheek creams and powders.
